Oh Nevada...my wonderful State...

Arming our teachers?

A Nevada legislator has proposed a bill that will allow teachers to carry concealed weapons at school. The worst part? Nobody is up in arms about this (no pun intended).

Consequences of cutting the education budget

Dear Representative,

I am a former Michigander now seeking to return as an experienced teacher, but education budget cuts have influenced my decision to accept a job in Decatur, GA. I moved from Michigan 2 years ago because I did not have enough experience to get a job as a teacher in my home state. Since then, I have grown to become a valued math and science teacher at my current high school. While student teaching in Michigan, I earned MASB awards for the SCI-MA-TECH program in Traverse City, I helped bring in over $30,000 in fund raising for the advanced technology program and even wrote about $4,000 worth of grants for Michigan high school students to work with new technology. This was before I even had any teaching experience or advanced degrees. Now I have a few years under my belt, and I'll be starting my PhD in January at Georgia Tech instead of U of M. Please feel free to browse my on-line resume by following the link attached.

I am gravely disappointed in your ability to govern. Why are you cutting the education budget? What are your reasons? What could be more important or useful to improving Michigan's economic state than educating our future citizens? I came from Michigan schools, and now I will be taking my passion for inspiring young minds elsewhere. I can't even begin to fathom who is your priority because it's obviously not your constituents. I'm appalled and I'll be writing several local newspapers in your district.

I hope you're happy,
