My Classroom

As a first year teacher in a growing region, my classroom is of the temporary variety. They call it a "portable" but it's really a trailer. It is one of four trailers at Douglas High School, each one occupied by a teacher that is new to the school. It has newer desks and a nice view (the Sierra Nevada Range in the background) as well as a view of the soccer fields and the baseball field.

Funny story about the baseball field, since the outfield wall runs right along the back of my trailer. A new student was taking batting practice to show the coach what he could do with a bat. I became aware of this because he was launching every other pitch into left field and hitting my trailer. I was very confused as to what was happening as I was startled after school by many loud thuds on the outside of my wall. I went outside to see what was the matter and sure enough a baseball lands with extreme velocity right in front of me on the metal walkway. Needless to say, I stayed inside until he was done.

I'm afraid for the start of the season, but I can guarantee I will be attending some games from the safer side of the backstop.
